[Music] [Music] [Music] fix my eyebrows yeah alright guys and welcome to episode 49 of the 10 minute modeling challenge back in 2016 i went to gdc in san francisco and uh that was a good experience i enjoyed looking at all the talks uh i was gonna say i enjoyed meeting some new people
00:56
but i'm too shy so i like sort of stayed on my own so i didn't really meet anyone right but there was one thing that caught my eye there it was actually a table top game called flick them up flick them down flick them flick them sideways flick them up it was called i think and it's basically a tabletop game i think you call it and uh you put a little uh cowboys up a little uh saloons uh little i don't know sheds uh whatever sheriff's office cactuses and whatever boxes and then you have these uh pucks that you flipped with your finger and that represented shooting down and you had to aim
01:27
towards your opponents and flick them down flick them up and i actually had a lot of fun playing that game we played quite a few rounds so uh despite my shyness i managed to uh speak to some people right there had a good time i don't know really why i thought about that game but i thought maybe i should do something cowboy related a while back i did a 24 hour stream and some of you watching now probably watch that stream and some of you even watch the whole stream absolutely incredible 24 hours straight so thanks for joining me on that you know who you are so appreciate it so i modeled a low poly cowboy then and
01:57
i won't be doing that now but i'm going to do a saloon so that's what we're going to be modeling today nothing fancy quite a square thing a little diorama let's get started let's do a saloon ready steady go when we're off yes tab into edit mode eight select everything g to move it let's get a sound color or something here ctrl slide that down shift d duplicate that face and here we're gonna do the floor or the outside floor l select the link make a brown shift d and now i'm going to make the saloon itself so slide that into the corner
02:27
e to extrude maybe to there e to extrude again l to select the linked let's get a different brown going and select that face scale zed slide that on down there's going to be a balcony now you have to step out and enjoy the view of the western town here e to extrude here we're going to do shift d duplicate that face e to extruder make some stairs going side view shift d move it down to there and then shift bar to replicate that
02:58
that's under the ground below the belt under the ground shift d let's do the same technique here scale y scale down for some posts here there and e to extrude that one up to there i don't want falling down when they're looking at the view here shift d duplicate x to there maybe and then shift r that's a manual array modifier there let's uh go for the manual weight no need for uh no no need for speed or the array or need
03:29
for speed that's why i didn't do the array hooray shift d shift d here i'm not doing the manual already shift d okay we need a railing though for sure uh shift d e to extrude and let's slide this one in e to extrude that on that's thick it's looking thick but it's okay we don't we want it to be secure here it might have had a few drinks so i have to be safety first eat to extrude e to extrude
04:00
and shift d duplicate that one e to extrude bring it down i have to have some railing here as well there we go and shift d let's make some supports here for the stairs as well and move it out and make it thick once again thick okay and then we need some posts i guess to support this whole structure then let's bring it down to there how am i doing 739 scale scale zed maybe it's it there
04:36
and the good thing is we don't have to worry about it looking too perfect not that it's going to look perfect but the carpenters back then didn't have any laser tools l to select linked shift the slide this one to here shift the space it out semi evenly that's it all right uh now we need doors here shift d scale it down move it down scale x slide it in the worst instructions ever remember this is not a tutorial but you can
05:07
follow along if you want each extrude l to select the length g to move it some darker wood here dark oak control r i to inset itunes set again for the individual scale z to flatten them bring them up e to extrude some fancy glass here gonna make them blue color nice and shiny shifty let's copy that whole wall again scale x bring it in scale down make a window need to extrude make it thick another thick one
05:37
i to inset okay control r control r oh that should be darker wood as well maybe a different wood all together okay shift select these items that i've got individual on ic already so that's good e heat extrude and blue glass again and here maybe we should do shift d some like overhang here make some fancy windows scale why am i doing six oh something couldn't even see 603 shift the duplicate on an outdoor
06:12
window cell is it called a windowsill i think it is l to select the length l l parallel shift d move it into there okay that window's too big period medium point scale down that's better shift the there ll select the link again shift the and again we're not going for perfection here but they do need windows downstairs shift d okay and they also need doors downstairs to get in
06:42
shift the duplicate that one let's make this black as well so it looks like it's a saloon i won't have time to do the interior so okay that's gonna do okay five seventeen let's do uh it took extrude this one s to scale e to extrude i to inset you textured make a different color table not a table top there okay we should do scale copy that one scale x we'll make a sign here as well it is a saloon after all has to say that it's got a big sign here
07:12
here to extrude uh itin set and e to extrude on g let's move it to a dirty white there and maybe we'll do g zed with proportional that's it it's going to be our sign okay we need uh barrel they probably have to have barrels 4 33 shift d to duplicate that one move it here scale it down okay right click and do subdivide that's my usual trick nowadays um
07:46
tools will do oh no edit circle i'm going to copy this we're going to make a cactus over here as well so copy that one l to select scale down offer proportional e to extrude s to scale e to extrude e to extrude s t scale thick barrel it's everything's thick ctrl r for loop cuts alt t to extrude long phase normals control plus those gonna be great metal bands not a heavy metal band but just a band item set twice he takes true down put water in there
08:19
they need that to uh after all the whiskey that they've drank inside probably rotate zad and let's put one over here as well a lot of water maybe all the way on the corner there okay cactus we said g they're green let's get but smaller apparently front view and then we'll do the control right click now for the quick extrusion here ah put some extra segments there so i can do some side ones as well traditional western looking ones circle control right click that's
08:51
again looking very thick okay let's do one here as well good measure not that i'm measuring these but i'm gonna control and right click and arc this one up as well as the scale that's wait that's a big gag just scale it down a little bit maybe bring it down shift the duplicator rotates that no one rotates that no one will notice that that's the same one uh shift the let's put one over here two minutes to go okay scale up okay let's put a crate here as
09:26
well shift d duplicate that one slide it in great that's great eat extrude l g brown crate apparently wood crate uh l itunes set twice faulty extruded long phase normals and g bring it back to their l let's stack a few of these they need to have something to hide behind here in their shootout rotate set
09:56
and l should we put how am i doing two minutes to go okay let's put some over here then as well shift d rotate set shift d rotate said shift d let's put lots of crates here okay that one's nearly flying in there okay we have time to do ctrl r for some loop cuts here ctrl r again there's some more loop cuts and then shift alt select these we're going to cheat now ctrl v we're not actually cheating but we're going to bevel those and just do it
10:27
so it looks like it's planck's there change it ctrl r twice 137 control r twice and then we'll do the same here i'll slide a few of these planks randomly semi randomly and uh we're not going to really look at the back there so much so maybe i'll do those later on so i'll shift select all of these now and then ctrl what's going on shift alt select all of these control b
10:58
but double dose can i do that scale zero bringing that down maybe i've got geometry now to actually move move the planks out a bit here we can make these planks look like they're actually poking out to the scale okay maybe not the best of ideas slide a few of these as well that one okay 34 seconds okay shift right click shift a text oh that's
11:42
big text kind of thick again saloon 23 seconds tap out of edit mode rotate uh x is it 90 ah scale that one down and g move it out shift space g move it in ah g e to x okay we can't do that uh shift right ctrl l material okay it's white text on white background [Music] okay whatever
12:16
[Music] i guess that could do they need to hide they need to hire the sign maker here that that should that should probably be a darker texture but all right folks there we go we've got ourselves a saloon ready for a shootout or something okay i don't even know if i have a tip for this one so uh what worked out all right i think the planks walking the planks yeah that could work i guess it's a lot of uh polygons here for low poly but
12:47
it's the low poly look remember that's what we want we don't necessarily need a low poly count as long as it looks a low poly style so should that have been a little bit darker maybe let's see what that would look like probably like that would have been better but hey we're not allowed to change after the time expired remember got some cactus cactuses cacti cacti yeah i think so i had a comment on my last video saying that maybe you're dragging this out a little bit too long and after all i've done 49 episodes and i did say that i was going
13:20
to do this year so i don't feel too guilty i don't think i've dragged it out too long since i was set to do it for a year but i have to seriously think now what i should do for next year so episode 50 will happen for sure and then we've got another is it three or four weeks probably in december uh that i'll be doing some more uh 10 minute mulling challenges but then i have to think what should i do next year should i do a new segment every thursday maybe do you guys want me to continue with low poly modeling well i was supposed to be 10 minute modeling but it turned into low poly modelling of course let me know in the comments what you think for next year and we're also going
13:51
to do a lot of christmas stuff coming up now check out the discord link and jump in there and there's a channel there called the christmas challenge and i challenge you to do some low poly christmas themed stuff could be a santa claus it could be a christmas tree i don't know a sleigh pep gingerbread house what else is christmasy well if you think about something that's christmassy you could model that and share that in that channel called the christmas challenge in the discord so check the link in the description and join the discord a lot of good people there have a lot of fun there why don't you model something and i'm going to make a video where i stick a lot of those
14:21
christmas themed things into a scene that's it so i'd probably advise you to stick to low poly and just one object in each blend file and make it easy for me to import it thank you and you have to use that the palette as well use uh the palette the gradient one that's in the download description for this video as well all right so the tip this week is just gonna be for especially for new viewers that haven't really been following the series and you've probably heard this one before because i've had it in other videos but there are a few things i want to just double double check that you remember so this is going to be an exam now it's like a test
14:52
so see if you remember this what i did one thing that i do a lot not only in this scene but i do it very often is i pick a face and if i need a square face yeah if i need a square face i just pick the squares one i can find and i do shift d to duplicate it right click that snaps it back and then i can scale this one this is now a separate face and i use this all the time to do stuff like uh box up something new e2x true that one up and i think also the the second tip is to do this uh what the way i did the fancy post
15:24
here you could use an array modifier but i think sometimes if you especially if you want to keep something this still looks too perfect so i'd probably have to do some proportional editing for this to make it not so perfect or not so square or exact the measurements but i'd say just go manually placement for for stuff so shift d to duplicate that one what i did scale it down and then i moved it and then if we wanted some railing up here e to extrude that on and here the second tip shift d to duplicate it put it where you want it
15:56
and then i pressed y to lock it on the y axis and then i just pressed shift r to repeat that process and i'd say that that's a lot faster than doing it to the old-fashioned way i nearly said but i'd say that that's faster if you just need a few one than bothering with the array modifier it's tempting to go for that one but i'd say just do the manual one if you're gonna have a few ones like this and as you can see everything is in the default cube except the text here now and so all of these uh separate entities now you can press l to select the linked ones here they're
16:26
in the same cube but it's quite fast to model this way i'd say and if you wanted to separate a few things let's say you wanted to separate this crate out i'll do l to select the linked because there's no vertex here that shares a vertex with anywhere else in the mesh and then you can just press p and then separate that into a new object here so now that one's separated out pretty nifty let's uh do a lot of controls out here get rid of these ll lll
16:57
oop too many else there there is actually one hotkey that i haven't mentioned so often as well and that's if you want to detach a face i don't think i've ever said that in any of my videos so here's the real i guess the real tip for all of those who are waiting for a proper tip that you haven't heard before if you want to separate this face not to a separate object but you want to split it away from here because if i try to move it now it drags the whole thing but if i literally literally literally want to take this face off then i press y that's why and now
17:28
it's off so and then the l thing would work to select the length here again so because it's uh now detached but let's put it back on oh i nearly didn't control z enough there that's gonna be it this week if you're watching the premiere thank you so much for watching that one if you're watching the repeat repeat it again watch it over and over again we need that count to go up no seriously i'm really happy that you could watch this one with me and uh come back for episode 50. i was going to say it's going to be epic but i have no idea i don't even know what i'm going to
18:00
model so i'm going to think of something though and i'm going to have to try to make it a little bit special some bells and whistles or something so come back next thursday and watch the 50th episode of the 10 minute modeling challenge until then have a great week and i'll see you then subscribe as well if you haven't already and like the video bye for now all right bye for now by the way this week i've been beaten so many times i'm making a game an rts game and for some reason i keep losing now that's
18:31
terrible and i'm playing against the other developer and he's pretty decent at playing i'd say uh actually he's really good at playing and it's really annoying me and i'm dominate no i'm not dominating i'm doing really well in the beginning of the match and then i lose it i lose it i lose the the lead i don't know what to do so uh i'm gonna have to practice but so i've got like five defeats at least in a row now terrible probably more even six seven i don't know too many anyway and then to make it even worse i played eve online with my son because he's playing that and uh
19:01
i did a something that you shouldn't do i set my ship on autopilot with 100 million no 200 million isk worth of stuff in my gear and uh i had to run off to my kids because they're off school they're ill at the moment so i had to run away and i set it on autopilot and when i came down i'd been capshield and someone stole all my trade goods so thank you you know who you are i actually sent you to watch my uh youtube channel because you should be feeling guilty for is it called podding yeah for podding me and destroying all my stuff but i
19:32
learned a very important lesson now and i know how you do it so i'm not going to do that again [Music] you
