Hey everyone. Zed is one of the most popular  champions in the game, and for good reason. Hes   extremely fun, and has a super high skill ceiling.  This just means he has a ton of potential and   almost every fight you could have done something  better. He is very difficult though, especially   if you dont have a lot of zed gameknowledge. But  fear not, in this video were going to teach you   what you need to know to play zed like a Zed main. Were going to start by covering his playstyle,   then powerspikes, Combos, tips and tricks,  then finally, runes, build and skill order.  So, lets get started. Zed is of course, an assassin,   but he is different than a lot of the other  assassins since he actually plays more like   an AD - Mage, or an AD - Caster as some would  call him. This is because you normally want   to be using your abilities from range to poke  and damage the enemy before actually going in.  But zed still does what other assassins  do, mainly looking to burst an important   target by flanking and catching them off guard. So lets quickly talk about Zeds power spikes. His   levels 1 and 2 are pretty bad, and he can actually  start lpaying the game around level 3. But hes a   scaling assassin, meaning the longer the game  goes, the better it gets for him. Hes actually   the best scaling assassin in the game, excluding  kassadin, but hes almost as good as him too.

So his first big spike is level 13, where  he has all of his points in Q and E,   and his level 2 ult. THis makes his E cooldown  very short and his Q doesnt cost as much energy.  The next big spike is level 16, because with  ultimate hunter, which you should be brining   every game, since his ult gets down to around  a 20 second cooldown. Thats obviously really   crazy considering how strong zeds ult can be. But now, lets get into the fun stuff, combos.  Zeds most important combo by far, is his W E Q  combo. There are multiple important parts to it.  First, you want to be using W first, and E  immediately after as the W is travelling, this   makes it so as soon as the W lands, it uses E. Second, you want to be throwing your W to one   side of them, not directly on top. By doing this,  the Q coming from your shadow will always hit   because its right next to them. It also makes  them start running away from the shadow,   so it makes the second Q easy to land as  well. It looks like this when done right.  I throw the shadow on the bottom side  of the vlad, then put my mouse on him   and throw my Qs, and they both land. Now, landing this combo consistently   can easily be the difference between winning  and losing a game, so you really have to focus   on it. This is the #1 priority combo to  start learning if you want to play zed.

Something a lot of players dont know about zed  is, if you land both Qs, you get energy refunded.   This is very important when going for all-ins  so you have the energy to finish them.  Now that you know the main combo,  lets expand a bit and look at the   first kill combo once you have your  ult. This combo is used mainly in lane,   if the enemy mid ever lets you walk into ult  range without having to use your W first.  You want to walk up and ult, then W E  Q like this, looking to land triple Qs.  Now, a very very common mistake for low elo  zeds, is that as soon as they come out of ult,   they use E. You dont want to do that  because if you hit somone with a shadow E,   it slows them. And if you hit them with a shadow  E plus your own E, it slows them even more. So,   by ulting and then using W E Q on top of them,  they will be slowed making your Qs easy to land.  Another variation of this, is super  super important for teamfights.  A lot of the time it can be hard to get to  backline safely. So, you will want to ult somone   in the front, then W E Q a carry in the back.  By ulting somone in the front, you get multiple   benefits. First, it gives you a really nice shadow  position to escape to, second, it makes the carry   that you are actually targetting, feel very safe. In this example, Im chasing the enemy Ori,
03:06
but my actual target is Cait, so I run at the  Ori untill cait is in range, Ult the Ori, use the   bread and butter W E Q combo on cait and an auto  to finish her off, then clean everyone else up.  Theres another benfit of comboing this way as  well, and its that you get a ton of AOE damage   because you have 3 shadows basically lined up.  So if you watch how I opened up on this fight   again, I basically had 2 or 3 Qs hitting  everyone here, which is a ton of AOE dmg.  Alright now were going to get a bit more advanced. This next combo is for more dangerous situations,   especially ones where you have to be able to  immmediately swap after ulting. Zed cant swap   to his ult shadow for .5 seconds after using  it, and you can easily get CCed in those,   so this combo helps a lot for that. Also, its  nice if you need to kite them out and not get hit.  So I have a few clips here to show you how this  one goes. the important part is dropping W first   in a safe spot, then R them, immediately  swap, press E for slow and then use Q.  This one I do the same thing, baiting  this very fed tristana to jump on me.   I W behind me, then do something a bit advanced  that will take you some time to get down.   I use my Q and swap to W at the same time, since  your Q makes you stand still. This makes it so
04:13
you are eseentially moving while standing  still if that makes sense. Its very smooth.  Trist tries to push me away, but because I  only swapped to my W, I still have my R shadow.   So I then swap back to my R and hit her with my  passive auto to finish her for the shutdown kill.  Alright so those were 2 combos  against ranged champions.   Now were going to mix up that same combo  slightly for the melee ones, especially bruisers.  Bruisers will kill you extremely fast if you are  in melee range of them. You basically cant let   them touch you. So, the combo, is using W first  when they are a bit further away like this...  Now if I just swap to that W, I  lose all of my options to kite.   So, Im going to wait for him to walk away from the  shadow, then ult him and immediately swap to my W.  So now I have already created distance between  us, and if he gets on me with flash or Q,   I can still swap back to my ult shadow. So I hit him with Qs and kite away from his E,   then W in quickly for one more auto and  swap to my R, giving him no chance of   hitting me because this is an extremely  fed jax and if I die he can end the game.  He ends up living, just barely getitng  away from my Qs, but the concept here
05:19
is kiting by using W first, then ulting and  having an immediate swap to continue kiting.  Alright so those are the main zed combos,  and learning how and when to use which   one is important and will take some time,  but lets move on to some tips and tricks.  The biggest tip I can give when it comes to zed  is, you have to understand how important his W   is. Most of zeds skill expression is in his  W. It creates so many different options and   if its down, you have to respect that. It also means you really have to pay   attention to how much time you have on it after  throwing it out. This clip is a perfect example.  Im farming bot lane, and I throw my W E  Q out to kill the wave. But as I do that,   I see Im getting flanked by the enemy team. I have to think quickly here because if I   wait untill my W is gone, I wont  have any way to outplay this.   So, while my W is out, I ult nidalee and  immediately swap to tht W all the way down here.  Now Ive created a ton of distance between  us, and my W cooldown is ticking again.  Right before my ult shadow dissapears, I swap back  and my W is back up so I can W away to safety.  So if I didnt ult nidalee while my W was up,  I would definetly die as I wouldnt have many
06:22
options. You need to know when you use W you  are on a timer and have to get the most of it.  In laning phase, if W is down, you have to be  extremely careful of jungle ganks or trades   in general as you cant win many without it.  Your W is your most important ability on Zed.  Alright another tip we have for zed which  is super important, is understanding how   strong his passive auto is. Your passive auto  does a % of their max health as magic damage,   and adds so much damage to your ult. A lot of  the time, if you can ult them and get a passive   auto off, they are easily in kill range.  It catches players off guard all the time.  In this clip, Galio jumps in to trade with  me, and Im trying to fight him but he starts   running away... But I know because of my passive  auto, I have enough damage to kill him here.   So I Q flash auto E and ignite, and I  only needed 1 tick of ignite to kill,   thats how much my passive auto did. Alright, now lets move to Runes   builds and skill order. For skill order, you want to grab Q then E   then W. And max them in that order as well. For rune pages, I like to run this one   agaisnt mainly squishy comps. But it  can be ran every single game just fine.
07:26
Against beefy comps with a lot of  melees like sylas mid aatrox top   Sejuani jungle etc. I like to run this page... And for builds, zed has a few options this season.  A build you can pretty much go every game is  eclipse into black cleaver, then more lethality   items. But there are other viable builds as well. Prowlers Claw and Duskblade are both viable   mythics but you have to learn how to use both  of them effectively. Prowlers is nice for that   one extra gap closer, its not really used  for damage on zed. It lets you save W for   more important scenarios or if your W is down  you can still chase somone that gets away.  Duskblade is amazing for teamfighting if you  can get the resets, but if you cant kill anyone,   its useless. If you rush duskblade or prowlers,  I recommend going more lethality second   or a last whisper if snowballing. You are going  to want last whisper third or fourth item at the   latest most of the time. If the enemy stacks  armor you just wont deal damage to them. But   mainly on zed you just need to build lethality  and decide which utlity is best for that scenario.   Edge of night is good if they have immediate CC  so you can jump in and survive long enough to R   away. Serpents fang is great vs sheilds.  Youmuus is good vs high movespeed comps, etc.
08:36
Its mainly just making sure you know when to build  last whisper then choose your lethality items.  Alright guys so now you have the tools  you need to play like a zed main.   Dont be discouraged if you cant do well right  away as zed is one of the hardest champions in   the game. But if you play him enough and make some  sick plays, it will all be worth it in the end!   But thats going to bring us to the end of this  one, we hope you enjoyed and thanks for watching!
