in this video i am going to show you how i went from this to peace hello painters whoops let me take that off hello painters now yes welcome again to my new studio let's face this question how much does it take to develop your art style lifetime but but but but there are some good news on this let me tell you my experience while i paint my dot juna because this is a great example of how my art style has developed over time let's go
00:34
[Music] first of all let me add this intermediate step because i usually make the sketch with acrylic as you know but i missed sketching with a nice regular pencil so these days i am making sketches with my pencil and then this acrylic extra step and yeah because i have practice now and
01:12
i am pretty fast it's okay and i can do this this is nice because i love adding colors with acrylic markers and i also can be super sketchy and turn the exact images that i have copied with the grid into a more sketchy polygonal shaped portraits and of course of course of course if you use pencil please erase the pencil because if not it's gonna make dirty the painting it's awful [Music]
01:52
if you saw my last studio tour you know i changed the setup but i don't want to show you because i want to do another video in a couple of weeks okay [Music] okay i don't want to focus this video as a tutorial because i want to paint my puffs again just did as a method of measuring myself where i am right now in terms of painting i wanted to share a little
02:26
story with you that a friend told me long ago from when i was in uni someday we were a drawing class and the teacher jamie told us to share where we were in terms of drawing and cleaning and where we wanted to go so i thought i could prepare a presentation with some of my works which were academically correct but i didn't like them i didn't enjoy making them [Music]
03:02
i felt like that was something anyone could achieve just by practicing and with a bit of a skill which you can develop with time if you use photorealism to make something more for examples rallies then is perfect but if you are just copying the photo just because what's the purpose [Music]
03:34
i like to make this or i like this as exercises but now that i have proven myself that i can copy a photo with graphite for example where's the point repeating this over and over again [Music] i don't mean to offend anyone if you do this but i just suggest you can use your skill to add something extra for example the surrealism to tell stories i don't know use your skill your patient your time
04:06
that this takes to make something extra something you need something yours [Music]
04:47
so [Music] well i was at that point and i wanted i needed a change so then i didn't have instagram this was like three years ago and i showed some pinterest pictures that showed some portraits with colorful brush work and visible brushwork and i knew i wanted to achieve exactly that
05:21
i knew i wanted to enhance the reality and make something colorful somehow and then the time has passed and copied came and i just started to paint still life paintings just because i painted what i had around and i started with instagram and i started getting influenced by a lot of wonderful artists and here i am do you know the story the thing is some months ago my friend reminded me this story and reminded me that i am
05:54
achieving now exactly what i wanted to achieve three years ago and this was mind-blowing [Music] so i remade the question the question about
06:29
how does it take to develop your style into three separated ones the first one how can i develop my style well my answer is by not thinking about it paint create but just do it and it will come if you force it and i took it with experience if you force certain style you won't stick to it as if it can grow organically on you you need to develop it and create it from the foundations so
07:02
my advice is forget that you are trying to get any style and just make and by the way why would you want a style when it's beautiful being able to paint differently this is just my opinion [Music] two how can i paint what i want to paint or how i want to paint okay i suggest to take some notes of
07:44
what you see on other painters for example i knew i wanted to paint with colorful brushwork and with visible brushwork so identify those characteristics for example say you like my use of blues onto tomatoes then paint your blues on tomatoes experiment with it practice it incorporate this into your paintings of course be honest and credit the people you are getting inspired from but do it it's nothing wrong about that you probably won't end up doing the same as the people you are
08:16
imitating but in the journey you'll end up finding your own things your unique aspects and you'll end up having certain group of characteristics that may be defined as a style [Music] three how much time does that take months years days it doesn't matter
08:56
because you'll see improvements and you'll enjoy since day one you will acquire characteristics since the beginning you will learn to use big brush work but then you'll pass through a second animal wave in which you'll paint with ink again i don't know and then you'll get back to acrylics and you will use a lot of colors you know what i mean and that's the beauty of the journey you don't know what's gonna happen and when for me this thing that i'm telling you took a couple of three years but i am
09:27
constantly changing things so who know what my style will be in a couple of years or more so [Music] this is the painting i made of yuna long long ago while this is the one i made today and i guess you can tell the colors are much much brave at least right same happens with nasus this is fine because with the gold leaf
10:22
here i was testing something else same as here with yuna but if i just talk about the brush work here you can see that this is more visible and the colors are much more rich in the new ones the blues and the reds compare to this one in which you can see some details in also blue and a bit of red but the overall the feeling you can get from this one is that is much more realistic [Music] the texture is also noticeable
10:58
look here said zero impasto well you can tell that i am less afraid of using oils here don't get me wrong these paintings aren't bad but these new ones have those characteristics i looked for in oils and the change is super clear also look at this one this is the one i showed before these two ones are the first ones that i made from my dogs
11:31
maybe in the nasus one i was making some changes in the brush work but you can tell that the colors were still a bit realistic while in unis i didn't even make the brush work right i don't feel proud at all of this painting but it's nice because you are looking now the changes you are looking now how much i have improved these years and this gives me hope i wish i can see these new paintings in a couple of years in 10 years i don't know
12:02
like i am seeing now the old ones because that would mean that i have developed a lot my style again and that i have improved a lot so who knows but yeah it's nice to see the the difference right it's nice to look back when you have worked every single day [Music] so how much time again i don't know when i started to paint with a purpose without reason to paint because i wanted to improve every day because i wanted to
12:37
find my style i paint it of course i already knew how to paint i knew the basics but i wasn't happy with the things i painted you know that so this is the first portrait that i painted which made me feel a bit proud until this i wasn't proud at all of what i was painting for example this cutie with paintings like this i wasn't happy at all so i needed
13:09
something more i needed to experiment this is one of the first little experiments i made with the pinks with the ochres i don't know but i wasn't happy with this one so i was sure about what characteristics i wanted to achieve the first one the brush work i wanted my brush work to be visible i wanted it to be wide and colorful so the first thing i experimented with this portrait was exactly that the brush work and now a couple of years later i am able to
13:41
make this which has again the brush work the brush work is super visible and i leave every single brush stroke without blending but also the colors i have achieved now two characteristics that i wanted to achieve in this in this class that i talked about in the video so i cannot say anything more than this sit down look on instagram look on social media choose how you wanna paint list it down on a paper on and
14:12
everywhere you want and try to go for it that's it if i could do it you can do it so close up this video and go to paint now and i hope to see you in the next video bye bye
