Hello! Welcome to Enbio Studio. Today we have a very special guest, Maryori, CEO and founder of "The Nail Corner by OPI" in Madrid. Hello Maryori Hi Laura, how are you? Very well, and you? Very well too How are you doing? I guess, well, there is a lot of uncertainty regarding the situation and all the preparations, right? Exactly, there is really a lot of uncertainty at the moment because, well, it is something that is not yet under control so people don't really know. I think they know what measures to take but they are not 100% in all the activities. But I think we have to be positive and continue working safely, which is the fundamental thing under any circumstances. Exactly, exactly. Very good that we mentioned it because what we want to comment today - we
have some questions - is about the safety and hygiene standards that are implemented in your center, not only those that have been implemented during the pandemic - the current pandemic period - but also those that are always implemented, day by day. Yes, well, let's see; before the COVID, for me it was a fundamental thing when.... For me, one of my dreams was to have my own esthetic center, and one of the things I was clear about were certain criteria, and the criteria ranged from quality to cleanliness and disinfection, as well as customer treatment. So that was one of my three priorities. Before Covid, obviously, we had already had some protocols in place, for cleaning and sterilization, which have nothing to do (in Spain, I mean, because there are many other countries in the European Union, or in Europe, which are regulated, but we do not have any regulation.
So, we used to use, for example, to sterilize our tools (which is not the same as disinfecting), Enbio sterilizers. We used to clean everything with alcohol and we have a lot of disposable items that are changed from client to client. So we already had a series of regulations in place. Obviously, after Covid, well, that's all the more reason to implement many other things. For example, when I first found out why we were all confined, and we are going to return, it creates a lot of uncertainty for me to know if the clients are going to feel safe, although I know that many of them appreciate that we have this, and we tend to explain it. You always wonder if the people want to come back, how are they going to come back, are they going to feel safe and so on. During the confinement, in fact, in the social networks you did a good job because
our own clients contacted us to encourage us, to tell us that they will come back, that they know we are safe, etc. So that's when I calmed down and started to look for all the systems that could be better, to have better cleaning and disinfection. For example, we were already using the Enbio system, as I said, for sterilization of tools. And apart from that, we did a chemical disinfection, and from then on, we do it every X amount of time in the whole place. It is the type of disinfection that you could see on television being done in nursing homes, in clinical centers, etc., to eliminate any living element, any microbe, any bacteria, just as Enbio does with our work tools. So that, apart from the disposables, the hydro-alcoholic gels, which are also part of our protocol.
We are the official OPI center in Spain, and within our protocol, before starting any manicure or pedicure service we already use this, "nas 99", which is nothing more and nothing less than isopropyl alcohol. That is, what could be an equivalent, something similar to the We have increased the service time to disinfect the place where the client has been, with hand sanitizer gel that has become fashionable today, and that nobody used before. alcohols, etc., before another person can use that work space. In other words, there are many things we have done since then, but we realized that there were many things that have to be done now that we were already doing before. Of course, many people are...it is a bit... not mainly because of misinformation, but also because of every opinion, mentality, ideology, that other people, other professionals of the beauty industry may have, but it is not really because of the current pandemic that we should implement high standards of hygiene and safety, but always because we must understand that these are treatments that involve direct contact with human tissue, and we are not only talking about Covid, we are talking about HIV, we are talking about
hepatitis, we are talking about many... Hepatitis, fungi, well...millions of things that can happen to you that people... I don't know. In the rest of Europe, I know that there are many countries that are regulated, so people receive much more information and the centers are much better suited for this than we are, since we do not have governmental regulations, and we do it as we wish. People often prioritize proximity, beauty, or price, and these are not the things that should be prioritized. From the beginning, we have always tried to tell the client about our protocols and the reason for our protocols. In fact, when people came in and we put the "nas 99" we explained to them "we are disinfecting the hands", "we are disinfecting the feet to be able to do this service". Obviously, our girls have always had their gloves, their disposable gloves that
they changed with each client, and they used their masks. This, before Covid. Because, obviously, there are many things that people have to pay attention to and when we do, for example, sterilization with Enbio, the first thing we do is disinfection. Disinfection is not the same as sterilization. So, the first thing we do is to disinfect the tool, then we put them in these little bags, which are self-sealing bags. Because they can also be put on their own, if you are going to use them right away, but if you are not going to use them right away and you are going to keep them in storage, it is better to keep them in these bags. We put them in the pouches, when they are already sterilized, they change color and we have them ready so that when our client comes, they are only for her. Because this is 100% effective, for any microorganism. So, now with Covid, of course, even more so. But before Covid, as you mentioned, there are many other things. Of course, of course. I have only two more questions:
One is, how did it start...so briefly to comment on how The Nail Corner by OPI started. I know, because since you are the founder and CEO, I would like to know a little bit of the history. And the last question would be, we put the two together, what suggestions or what tips could you give me for colleagues and other professionals in the industry, especially in this time and also for the future, considering the pandemic era, but not just. Okay, well, let's see. The Nail Corner was founded in 2017, as I told you before it was one of my dreams to have my own beauty salon maybe because my roots are Latin. I am Colombian so in my culture it is very popular. I always dedicated myself to business, but I always had some time to study, to get informed and learn about aesthetics. And in 2017 I decided to do it, but I wanted to do it hand in hand with the best. So I have always joined brands that represent, above all, safety and quality.
So, I talked to OPI and they were delighted to participate in my project and we set up this "flagship" in Madrid. And they were very happy with the reception we have had, people are very happy that we are here. And along with this, another thing that was very clear to me was the quality of the service is linked to the product, but it is also the type of customer service that is much more personalized. We dedicate much more time to the individual so that everybody feels like they are unique. And of course, cleaning and disinfection, so that we would be something different and that people would realize that it is important, because it is very important to create this awareness and that is why we even take the time to explain to them "well, we do this to avoid any contagion of any kind of thing, etc." So, anyway, that's how we started this adventure, and that's how we are going.
And then the tips that you have asked me to give you. Well, as we don't have this regulation here, we have to create a social conscience among ourselves. One of the Enbio Safe initiatives that I love is Enbio Safe. I love it because it puts on the map the safe centers, the centers that are carrying out this sterilization. Why do I mention it so much? Because it is the only thing that 100%, tested with everything, is the one that eliminates any microorganism, any bacteria, any agent that you may have. So I recommend this of course. Whether there is Covid or not, in personal contact there has to be a lot of cleaning and disinfection. We must always wear gloves, we must wear masks and we must have a personal distance, we cannot be glued to each other. In other words, we have to carry out all these types of things.
We should all unite a little bit to carry out all these measures, I think. Of course, and I love it because I notice a very positive mentality on your part, a mentality of collaboration, a mentality of cooperation with the professionals in the industry. And at the end of the day that's what it's all about. Of course. And also, well, because within Enbio Safe, it is the customer's right to know all these things and as professionals we have to communicate them, not only the type of product we use but everything that is included in the service and also included in the price paid.
