hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome
to this review of FLE AC the free audio
converter it is a free audio converter
on CD extractor for Microsoft Windows
Linux Mac OS and FreeBSD it is
distributed under the GNU General Public
License
besides extracting audio from compact
discs free audio converter can also
00:32
convert audio files from one format to
another or to the same format but a
lower bitrate
so let's go and take a look at the
software I am now on the free audio
converter website the link will be in
the description below so as you can see
it welcomes you to the project and just
explains what it is about there's also
01:04
various blog entries explaining about
its development during alpha and beta
stages before general release and then
if I scroll back up to the top of the
page we have all the links so now we
have alpha releases and also the main
release so I'm going to download the
version that's 1.0 0.2 now that I've got
01:37
free audio converter version 1.0 0.3 to
install let's take a look around the
software so let's start in the left hand
corner of the screen at the top so to
start off we we've got
file and then the file we've got AB so
we can add files AB CD contents then
we've got audio file as well as audio CD
02:10
contents
so underlay or the LCD contents as you
can see it's literally be drives that
are on my Windows machine and then on
the app we've got remove Lord job list
save job list clear job list and exit
then on the file we've got database so
02:39
this is basically what you use to
retrieve you see the information of the
internet such as artist album title what
they are is name is as well as the track
titles and all the track lists for the
CDs and this is done by all these
various options that are in this list
such as query CD database submit CD
database data query CD database for
03:14
later
sure queried CD database entries as well
as queries then we've got an able CD
there's to be as cache which is on by
default which basically caches any CD
information but you might go straight
from a CD so if you were to read it
later it doesn't have to go to the
internet to find that via to it you can
just looking at some local cache and
then retrieve the information from there
03:43
then under that we've got manage CD
database caching entries and automatic
CD database queries then next we've got
options under options we've got general
settings configure selected encoder and
active cd-rom drives so I have two in my
machine the next two options we have
04:12
incurred which is basically to start the
encoding process to pause or issue human
as well as stop encoding and then under
start encoding we've got various options
we've got all the far mats that you can
pretty much select to encode a file
including FLAC mp3 ogg windows media
audio anchored and windows with file
04:46
output now let's take a look at these
general settings option so if I go to
options and then general settings this
window comes up so we've got encoders so
under encoders it's currently selected
under the Liam mp3 encoder version 3.1
hundred but there's a drop-down so if I
drop it down I can select all the
05:17
encoders for all the different formats
that are available in this software but
for this demonstration I'm going to
leave it as mp3 then next alarm we've
got configure encoder so if I click on
that another window comes up and we've
got all the encoding configuration
options so we've got basic so under
presets
my preset is currently custom and then
05:48
on the way we've got variable bitrate
mod so you can select variable bitrate
so when you encode it and a bit rate
fluctuates from very high to very low to
medium
we've got average bitrate which is just
an average taken from the lowest bit
rate in the highest bitrate and then
below that we've got couldn't bitrate
which is not variable so it just is I
06:23
couldn't bitrate at all times which I've
selected and I've also selected to set
the bitrate to 320 kilobit
as well as the quality as zero which in
this instance zero is better and if I
change it you'll see that the numbers
increase but like I say zero is better
so if I make it ten sorry if I make it
06:53
nine nine is worse than zero so I'm
gonna put that back to zero and I'm
gonna click ok then next day encoders
we've got playlists which I've just left
those defaults but it's just saying yeah
anything that's incurred they've put it
in my music folder and then we've got
languages again I've left this as
default some in english-speaking users
07:25
so I've left it is English then we've
got Ripper and the Ripper it selected my
default physical CD drive because as I
mentioned earlier I've got - I've got
one physical drive on one virtual one so
I'm gonna have the physical one selected
at all times it also tells you the
maximum drive speed which in my case is
07:52
for EAX speed it says read CD text and
also read CD play by default and then on
the automation we've got read CD
contents on insert as well as CD options
which are lock CD tree whilst ripping so
that prevents you from what we flip mean
you drive and damaging you you CD drive
08:24
as well as use native NT SCSI libraries
which I've left is default then next
we've got CD database on the CD their
service I've just left all these just by
default so it says enable remote CD
database so I've left it is hit
HTTP request which is on part eighty and
then I've also left the default options
08:58
enable to automatic CD database queries
prefer CD database over CD text and then
able CD database cache then next to the
database searching we've got plugins
which I've only got a output warning
installed which is without output
version 2.0 point to point a which is
just default and then none on the input
09:30
and then we've got info our targets
under info types it's going to write
tags free version two it's going to
write verbose comment tags right and be
for metadata info right WME metadata
info and then i've just left all the
encoding its default which it all here
10:02
and you can also have a default comment
string which you can keep obviously
really low you can delete it so it just
tells you what piece of software used
and the URL where you can get the
software from
before I convert the former from flak
into mp3 I'm going to show you the
current state of the file the audio file
that I have created is in the FLAC
10:36
format the free lossless audio codec the
file size is 1.89 megabyte this is a
recording that I'm going to export as a
flat file a free lossless audio format
I'm then going to convert it into an mp3
now let's take a quick look at all the
icons that are part of the software
before I convert the file
11:09
most of these icons I've already
previously covered in the actual menus
but I just thought it would be nice to
also cover these as well so to start
with we've got me add audio files icon
and next to that we've got add audio CD
contents remove selected entry clear
lantry's job list query CD database
11:44
submit CD database data configure
general settings configure the selected
audio encoders start the encoding
process pause or resume encoding and
stop encoding and then just here we've
got play pause stop rewind fast-forward
and eject CD from CD Drive
12:21
now it's time to convert the file so as
you can see I've just dragged and
dropped the flat file into the software
from my projects one folder so the file
name is untitled doctor
it also tells you the length in minutes
and seconds as well as the file size so
to convert it into mp3 because I've
already set all the presets and the
collecting clothing all I'm gonna do it
12:54
just quickly start encoding button here
and the process will start now once it's
finished as you can see it's removed the
file from the job list that's what
you've got to do in order to convert a
file I am now going to drag the
converted mp3 into the software just to
show you that it's being done so as you
can see it has been correctly being
13:24
converted with the dot mp3 extension
it's also shows you the track length
which is 15 seconds as before as well as
the file size which is obviously
significantly smaller than the flat file
as the mp3 has been compressed into a
lossy format at the compression rate of
320 kilobits and that concludes my
13:55
