01:11
kind of a side business for us my main business is basically a trucking business so we had semis and some pickup trucks that we had to keep running you know so we were working on him a lot we also try to tune him up a little bit get better mileage that kind of thing that's how it started you know as far as the performance aspect did you have a background in racing or sled pulling or any of those kind of competitions well definitely been drag racing since I
01:43
was 16 years old um my dad definitely got me into that I was the kid that always took his toys apart and got yelled at by my parents like anything so I always wanted to want to know how things work so that's a good thing so when you go from like stainless Diesel's are there a household name in the diesel industry for a lot of different products how does it go from where it was to where it is now and how quickly it's grown and how big it's got the industry is great you know we started out small just doing just piping
02:14
kits and then we found the need for you know some other things like our manifolds and you know customers would just call us and hey could you make this could you make that we might need one of these and I'm like we just kind of found her a niche that way so one of the questions we got asked a ton when we had you on the podcast was about these five blade mafia turbos they look really cool people are curious about them what are they and how did you guys bring these to market we initially
02:46
had the idea about two and a half years ago to come up with something different something unique that would work well for our turbo kits you know single turbo twin turbos and we're really very fortunate to have great dealer network so we did about a year your year plus worth of R&D using some dealers and the course on our highest horsepower you know VP you know the only truck as well in a shop truck and they're crazy
03:19
they make a very loud turbo jet engine like sound which a lot of guys like and they they definitely cool off IDI tease and move a lot of air so lots of testing if they come in that's 300 and that's 400 frame chargers yep all of our you know we've got the street sizes and we've got some larger big singles you know small singles so 53 millimeters has a really popular size for us and that's
03:50
your daily driver stuff so anybody for 500 650 horsepower range now they work very well Toto a gooseneck trailer we've got them in 66 millimeter for the s-300 frame as well and then we step up to our 400 frame so our 72 millimeter we have a 68 millimeter and a 80 millimeter as well as our 75 so lotsa sizes do you guys offer men that like t3 t4 oh yeah yep
04:21
all of we've got T 3 T 4 and T 6 as well and we use them in you know turbo like a twin turbo kit you know single turbo just depends on what the customers looking for we like to personalize you know exactly what the customers want it definitely comes through you know with product line is you guys offer a ton of different options for colors for setups how hard is it to put together a product line like that where you give so much customization well then that's that's
04:51
another thing it was basically customer driven we had customers saying you know hey we don't want to buy this this one-stop you know one size fits all thing we would like to have a red one or a blue one where I want a polished one or you know something like that and that's kind of how that evolved I guess but it's difficult we got a two week build time on custom builds like that and that we hit the deadline it's it's tough it's really cool though it's it's a very unique part of the industry then
05:24
the product line is to offer so much customization but you know truck owners they want to personalize colors or different looks to go along with the truck so you think that's awesome you guys offer that we've had definitely had some guys you know they're wanting some unique things we've had customers that we did some camouflage piping for through one of our dealers up out west so it's great to see that kind of guys
05:54
wanting everything custom we can make that happen as a as a six seven Cummins guy one of the things that has always piqued my interest is a second gen Swan and you guys got the manifolds for him the the Chargers like the thigh blade mafia turbo what kind of performance gains do people get when they do a second gen manifold setup on a five nine or six seven say verse the typical common rail manifold I guess what we've seen is that we've done the second gen swaps for quite a while and initially on the five
06:25
nines of course but they seemed to get rid of that common rail rattle or that raspy tone that you'll hear on a third gen style manifold truck and make it sound more like a closer to a second gen let's say real real diesel diesel tone you know real good sound but what we found out is that we said people report in on better mileage that kind of thing is better power back to back seat from one because Sergent position to the second location
06:56
but one thing I guess we do a little bit different is we put the manifold in twin position so you're flipping it up on our single swaps and what we found is that if you look at the airflow direction as it comes out of the manifold and you put you know a nice you know bore Warner turbo on like this - 366 or 400 exhaust housing as well whether it's t3 or t4 six seven guys you know we tend to run
07:28
the t4 stuff but the air does a continuous circular motion when the manifolds flipped up in twin position as opposed to like a second gen where the manifolds facing down the airs doing an s-shaped maneuver so it turns down and then back into the turbo housing so air generally doesn't like to change direction so a little better velocity I think it makes the turbo response faster gotcha yeah one of our listeners wanted us to ask you that question specifically I always wondered I always wondered as
08:01
well it's a very clean setup I've seen one trucks before and one thing on the intake side I guess as well you know surge in position you've got this hard 90 off of the turbocharger and it bends up in 90s into the air filter box on our second gen swap with the turbo in the high position we gotta just a small Bend about a 30 degree bend in the pipe and it's pretty much a straight shot to the turbo hard bends off the face of the turbo affect a little bit of power on the chassis dunno what we've seen it's a
08:32
complete solution guys got them a lot of time and effort and design goes into these these kids you know people are putting on their truck to make that extra power just trying to trying to make things more efficient and you guys got a in addition there at the shop or something you're working on with a dino Sena yep we move shops about a year ago so now I have some more room to play with I guess and we're definitely excited about the the larger chassis dyno that we recently got so it's got
09:04
some great capabilities it's rated for 2,500 horsepower they built in a unique feature that we were asking about we can do a reverse pull on the chassis dyno it's going to be interesting know for sled puller guys be really cool see what you guys are able to do with that and test some trucks and these products with your exhaust manifolds they have a zero percent failure rate and that that catches everyone's attention what goes into building these manifolds that makes
09:34
them so bulletproof now years ago when we were first started playing with the trucks and trying to keep our tow trucks alive I mean one thing that we had problems with you know a lot of heat cycles I'm a tow truck everyday you know pulling a heavy trailer and trying to keep things alive and what we noticed is we had manifold failures the stock turbo manifolds in our 2nd gens at the time were cracking we had problems you know we we had one work truck that we still do about we broke this broke the manifold and it had about five o'clock
10:06
in the evening and this thing had to be on the road at 4:00 in the morning to deliver some parts to a customer and we stayed up late and I was looking at how thin the stock manifolds were on the Cummins and I'm like wow no wonder no wonder this thing broke so we stayed up real late we we braised it actually for a good temporary fix we got the work truck back on the road needless to say that fixed it and lasts long so it was just you know something that I did a lot
10:38
of research on I found a material that did basically accepts tons of heat cycles with no failure and then we did some flow testing flow simulations and design you know all of the internal turns and how big we wanted the inside to be and found a great boundary in Michigan the port force and then we were off to the races and they come in t3 t4 t6 right yep that's correct as well as
11:09
2014 12 out one of the really cool things is it common either is you guys have hardware that will come in the kits or different ones you can choose which is it's nice to that nice finishing touch yeah it's just one of those things where you know it's you don't have to go grab and you know guess and what you're gonna need to put this thing on you know we send bolts it's pre drilled and tapped you know for that eight inch NPT as well as quarter-inch some gauge you know EDT guys the some
11:40
gauge packages will have one size or the other so we also include blast plugs so if you don't use either one we can plug those that's really conveniently you're they're putting it on a truck and you know if you got an EGT probe it's ready if you don't have one you have the plug now on the piping kits that's another really popular product especially for someone who may already have the turbos or they're taking up from one truck to another what kind of piping kits the stainless diesel offer well we make you know the single turbo swap kit piping only as
12:13
well as complete you know a lot of guys will have a you know a bolt on stock location turbo or they even want to take their 351 turbo and put it in a different location with a nice cold air intake and all of that fancy you know anything they want but you know for the most part the twin turbo piping sold separately as well and then we've got a section on the website for guys that like to fabricate you know there's a you know I love I love welding I love building things that always have and you
12:44
know for guys that love building their own stuff you know we've got an array of all of the flanges we use on our kits like our our t6 CNC flange it's very thick holds a gasket well we can work you know all the flanges all the elbows everything sold separately so that has part of the equation he can have the rest you know in pieces if you'd like there's a piping kits are they for Cummins Duramax well currently we do all
13:17
the piping kits mainly for the Cummins just just because I guess that's what we were our niches I guess or specialty but we do offer a line of Duramax intercooler pipes and we've got some new things coming down the road that may include some Fords really cool yeah there's a lot of guys out there like to build their own kits and you know do it themselves and it's really awesome you guys offer offer some products to do that that they're top-quality products you guys use them and and they can set that up themselves
13:49
if they like yeah we're real popular weld your a weld your own downpipe thirties we'll make your own down pipe those are the very popular for guys that like the weld saves them a couple bucks to you because you know a little cheaper when they weld it versus us for the Cummins engines what your ranges is they cover for for piping kits and even the compound cuts yeah well we just basically covered all the way to 2016 all the way to 1994 now we've done a
14:20
handful of first gen hunter boat kids some special one-off things because the first teams are unique as far as where the firewall is at the driveshaft comes down on the passenger side on the four-wheel-drive truck so we've done a handful of those as well those first ginger a little tricky because they're that they're awesome trucks they run forever but yeah the compound kits are so hard to do on them with with the driveshaft there on the four-wheel drive oh yeah yeah and then one new thing I guess you know for the 16 13 to 16 trucks it was a challenge to do our new
14:52
400 400 twin turbo kit on that chassis things are definitely in a different location on the newer trucks how much time goes into doing R&D and coming up with a kit safer like a brand new truck like a 2016 well there's definitely a lot into it you know no fitments quite a bit different and then the concept you know it's like what what do these guys actually want to do with these trucks you know brand new truck we head up one of our dealers out of Texas he said hey I want to win turbo
15:24
kit for my brand new truck I'm like okay bring it up and then uh we just made that happen it's hard sometimes as a diesel enthusiast to know just how much blood sweat and tears and time and an effort goes into making a production turbo kit that you can ship all over the country or your dealers can sell all over the country and they will fit that truck as long as it's in that hue range you know oh yeah tons of late nights lots of busted knuckles a lot lots of
15:56
time sacrificed away from the family that's for sure as far as cease pecking a compound setup or even a just a single turbo setup if the truck gunner calls you guys and they say hey I want X amount of power this is my use you know I'm a tow heavy might not tow it all this is what I want to do you guys really specialize in helping people pick the right turbo setup there seems to be probably the majority of the questions are we getting you know hey you know I see this kid I see that kid you know my buddy bought your kit you
16:27
know he said it's bulls great it does this that's probably the roughest question that you can get it's all subjective what's cool is really good for one customer might not school it's good for another customer as far as their perception of it so you really got to talk to the guys and feel them out and see what they want to do with their trunk everybody of course wants a thousand horsepower truck they can pull a 15,000 pounds loose neck trailer with
16:57
well and it's it's possible but this definitely some trade-offs but you know we've got kits that work really well on that low end horsepower you know five six hundred on a single or compound and then course a thousand twelve hundred horsepower on a compound kit and anything in between but I really like to talk to the customers to see how they want their truck to drive and that tells tells me exactly what combination that I'm going to put together form what are
17:27
some very hey proven or comment turbo setups I know it varies a bit on the common rails between a five nine and a six seven but what's a great say turbo for 550 600 horse kinto might go to the track yes a modified CP 3 and 290 horse nozzles lift pump a smart EFI what's a really good turbo for that kind of street truck common rail application I'm a five nine side 6368 it's very popular we got guys making
18:01
you know ridiculous horsepower and being being pushed beyond what we recommend with that charger but in general we recommend general 500 500 to about 689 horsepower in that range it's very towable very drivable you can pull a gooseneck trailer with it I go to the track and just have great great time it's a it's awesome daily driver sighs how does it how does it change on
18:32
a six seven per se this income at power level and and use well the same thing on a six seven is completely it's almost completely different it's just some different animals for sure they are able to spool a turbo larger than you would imagine my my drag truck for instance we switched from a five nine block and head combination to a six seven engine and you know made the new VP gear case fit and everything and on the drag truck
19:03
last year basically we had a t6 132 exhaust Alvin 96 turbines on our vertical setup that was the it was the manifold chuggers and we're talking to VP Chuck here you know so this thing it's pulled right up and everybody sees ever seen this one at the track I mean it comes right up and rock and roll's so six seven is definitely different animals for like a stock truck see stock injector stock fuel pump just a good
19:34
tune we've seen 500-550 at the tire with a swap kit for 366 will do it but our 465 kits probably one of the most popular ones for the stock guys that want a daily drive in tow and of course we have the 468 for sixty seventy seven and our hot single kit for the six seven guys they still tell them daily drives in that size range but we're
20:07
making around 850 800 850 range with our five blade for 72 on a daily driver truck be a race truck not long ago and now one of the questions I've always wanted to ask and I I've never really been able to but when you have an S 300 charger say it mana six seven verse and s400 is there any durability or longevity increases by using that as four hundred frame with the larger shaft and the
20:38
larger internals on it versa 300 are they about the same you know the bearing systems definitely larger which requires maybe a little bit more volume oil volume and so guys that are pushing the the 400 chassis it's a little hard and the 300 as well we recommend our extreme duty - six oil feed line as far as like the bearing systems ourselves unless yes definitely larger on a 400 frame you know some of the tricks that we've learned over the years is definitely
21:09
don't put too tight a housing on yeah a lot of cost a lot of customers will you don't know don't think they'll have to have a 90 and we recommend against it and there's just longevity there is anything but if you're gonna sled pull or drag race I mean definitely recommend a 400 frame over 300 in many cases what kind of characteristics can a truck owner expect say with a ninety verse a 100 or 110 not necessarily racing but see on the street sure and you know one exhaust housing sides on a 400 on the
21:41
Commons say from a 90210 or a 100 to a 110 generally at peak pressure you'll change 5 pounds of peak pressure from one exhaust housing size on the Commons Duramax that's a different animal but in general on the comments that's what you'll see so if you were making 50 pounds with uh with the 1l and you put a 90 on it you'll make 55 pounds with tonight that increase it may not necessarily be beneficial per se say it
22:14
might be more efficient or my make more power say if you went from 55 on a 92 50 on a one out is that what you guys see you know saying testing is is the volume and just the efficiency of the charger and and boots kind of all playing into it but definitely probably plays a huge role like on our competition Chargers for instance we like to run negative dry pressure just by having a very efficient combination
22:47
with the compressors cover in the compressor wheel versus turbine sizing and then we can make that happen of course with the right engine combination but you know when it comes to having high drive pressure you'll hear people talking and one oh my my drive pressure is one-to-one that's generally pretty efficient but if you can make that happen with negative Drive pressure so a real good thing the L on six seven guys especially with the stock turbo if the drive pressure is insane on it and you
23:18
know with the tune a little bit of fuel it just gets even worse and it might make 40 pounds or 45 but is it a good forty forty five verse going with one of your turbo kids Oh exactly well what's really nice about getting rid of the vgt it's kind of a trade-off I mean you get rid of the engine brake but you gain the ability to keep your head gasket intact especially when you turn their fuel up a lot of guys have done multiple head gasket jobs on their six oh yeah in the
23:49
six seven I mean they got they got crazy dry pressure and when you size things right they end up being just an awesome tow truck as far as making power now these guys will put on just uh just a standard one of our small you know daily driver swap kits and just 550 horsepower stock injector truck just crazy so for 2016 what are you guys working on or I think you might be releasing here you know this year for the the Cummins and the Duramax and even the power
24:19
stroke guys well we've got we're working on a larger primary turbo now for our compound setup so it's going to be an 85 millimeter range so that's going to be new for this year hopefully uh summer time release um we also have a our 400 400 kit release coming up soon for the 2013 to 16 trucks where can people see you know pictures or releases you know these products where's the best place to find this info well you can
