are you done I was told we were gonna coordinate shirts so hey guys welcome back to the arts music show my name is Aaron this is Jack and today we brought a special guest all the way from Fender our friend Mike who's gonna be talking the player series with us here today thanks for having me guys I'm happy to be here hey no problem so we've been hearing a lot about these guitars at
00:38
summer NAMM we're in the fender family to these player series fit in well the the player series is to put it pretty simply is the the direct replacement and sort of the latest evolution of the standard series which has been in the fender line for I mean a long long time now and it's been one of our most popular series because the standard line had been around for so long and was as popular as it was I mean those guitars they sounded great they played great you
01:10
know those are big shoes to fill when you're when you're coming out with you know the series that's gonna replace it you know we really had to reach deep into our bag of tricks to come out with some some really great features on these new player series guitarist in order to do so so we're going from standard to player but what's what's different what's new well the first thing you'll notice when you when you walk into your local music store with the player series is the the selection we've gone in and added a number of different pickup
01:40
configurations body silhouettes there's a there's a lot more to choose from so in addition to the strat and tele and jazz bass and P bass that you'll normally see we've added a Jaguar we've added a jazz master we've added a Jaguar bass which is a which is a really cool addition we've also got different pickup configurations which we'll get into in a little bit but I mean we've got HSH strats and we've got you know HH Telly's and we've we've got lots of different things to choose from and we've also gone and added
02:12
new colors I'm a fan of fender colors what are we talking as far as color options because I know we had some of the staples the sunburst black white in the player series I'm seeing a couple of different already just just what we've got here a couple of different options that haven't seen before so what yeah so there's a lot of new colors in the players series and they're all really really cool in addition to like you said the blacks and the sunburst that you know those are staples that you're always going to see we've actually changed up the white so this strap behind me is a new white that we're
02:42
calling polar white it's it's it's a much brighter sort of pure white looks really cool with the parchment guard we've also added this color here which is called butter cream which is a nice really sort of creamy yellow color the the Telecaster next to Jack there is a is a new color called sonic red which is again it's just a really cool new red has almost a Fiesta red it's kind of like a mix between Dakota red and Fiesta
03:13
red I would say it really has - yeah exactly we're keeping butterscotch in the telly as well this is another new color here it's called sage green metallic kind of a cool nice mellow green color we've got tobacco burst we've also added a new blue color called tidepool which we don't have we don't have behind us right now but it's it's a really nice metallic blue color like this guy yeah like that one right there and what do you have to say hi tell me about that excuse me yeah we don't have to be rude
03:45
about it as a guy who loves the aesthetics of guitars obviously color is a huge deal to me but I'm a bit of a hardware nut so when we're talking guitars I gotta know what pickups there are what tonal options we've got the player series obviously being an evolution means that there should be some more functionality going on what's what's under the hood is it work yeah there's there's been quite a few changes to the guitars it's a pretty massive overhaul Aaron why don't you grab one and we can we can walk through it a little bit so this is the player
04:19
Stratocaster your standard single single single configuration and this is in buttercream so let's talk pickups what do we have going on in these guys yes so when you when you grab one of these guitars and plug it in probably the biggest difference that you're gonna notice straight off the bat are the pickups the pickups have been completely redesigned these aren't in any other Fender guitars and they're they're using alnico magnets in the single coil versions it's Alan echo 5 in the
04:49
humbuckers it's now in the co2 and really what that's gonna give you is it's gonna give you a tone that's gonna be a little bit more vintage it's gonna be a little bit more authentically Fender sounding the standard series used ceramic pickups which also sound great it's gonna be a little bit higher output and it's just a little bit of a different sound so I think that these pickups sound absolutely fantastic and let's let Aaron down with them a little bit [Music]
05:26
really there's a lot of clarity they're very articulate [Music]
06:24
as far as the pickups go they absolutely sound awesome I am a fan now when we're talking other Hardware differences is there anything else on the player series that really jumps out yeah there there's a few other changes so I'll start with the neck on this when you're looking at the guitar the first thing you'll notice is the logo on the headstock is a little bit different we're using the spaghetti logo it's probably the most recognizable Fender logo on the standard series we were using the transition logo it's it's a small change but I think it really makes the guitars look that much better if you flip the guitar around speaking
06:56
of aesthetic changes we've also done an F logo stamp on the neck plate it's another small change but it just helps really let people know that this is an authentic Fender guitar which is one more thing the other major thing and it's something that a lot of people were asking for so we've added to added a twenty second fret to the neck so it's a little bit more of a modern neck it's got 22 frets we've kept the modern C neck shape and it's a satin finish on the neck so it's a really nice smooth neck feels fantastic
07:27
plays really great we've also added a two-point trim on the strats which is an upgraded bridge it's basically going to give you a little bit more tuning stability that way when you're using the trim your guitar isn't gonna go out of tune now everyone's been familiar with the standard series for a long time along with the the new color options the the new name to the the player series what's what's the thought process behind sort of shifting the title yes so the the player series really it's just that
07:57
it's four it's four players these are priced to sort of be the entry point to the fender electric guitar line so for I think for a lot of people this might be their first fender electric guitar if you've always wanted a fender this is a great place to start but also if you are a you know if you're a gigging musician or you know if you're a long time musician these are fantastic guitars they come in a ton of different options that you may have never owned maybe you've always wanted to own a jazz master a Jaguar or you know maybe you
08:30
just need another guitar that you can bring to the gig and if it gets scratched it's okay it's not the end of the world this is really what that's all about these guitars are meant to be played maple necks are absolutely a staple of the fender family they've been around for forever and they're a classic design choice as far as the line goes now I personally really like the darker option generally it's the you know the the look that kind of appeals to me a bit more but I know there's been a little bit of a change with the player series you want to fill
09:00
us in on what's going on yes so the player series you do have the option between two different fingerboard woods maple that we were just running through but rather than rosewood we're using pal farro and you're gonna find this on some of our other instruments as well but POW farro is a very similar wood to rosewood it's similar in terms of looks it does tend to be a little bit lighter and there's a little bit more grain to it sometimes which I actually think is really great because the more grain
09:30
that's in a guitar in my opinion the more unique it is you know no two guitars are the same when you when you can see really unique grain and the fingerboard which i think is great and yeah it's a premium wood that we also use on our Stevie Ray Vaughan Stratocaster as well as numerous other guitars in the fender line now if I'm not mistaken pal furrows are more expensive wood than than rosewood traditionally yeah it is it's a it's a premium wood that we chose because we really like it from a sustainability standpoint from a
10:01
an aesthetic standpoint I think it looks great and also from a tonal standpoint personally I feel like it's nice to have a little more uniqueness to your instrument anyway and I'm a big fan of the change because I'm a little more partial to having a guitar that I know no one else is gonna have so color options are awesome and hardware options are awesome but knowing that you know that grain pattern of that streak and that neck is me you know that's that's a good feeling it's very personal absolutely which I think your instrument should be right it's your tool so why not and that's that's the beauty with the player series you get
10:31
personalization through your body shape you have a bunch of body shape options color options pickup configuration options and then also maple or Pao Ferro board options so there's lots of lots of personalization that you can do with your guitar plus multiple pickup configurations and in styles as well now I absolutely love the sonic red that's definitely one of my favorite color options from the new line yeah what's different about this telly is that it's got two humbuckers which is definitely unique for a Telecaster yes so that I mean that's one of the beauties with the player series is you get all of these options so in addition to single coil
11:04
Telecasters like this one down here by my side you can get this one which is the player telly HH which means it has two humbucking pickups and I mean there are plenty of humbucking options within the series as well there's there's a Jaguar which is an HS humbucker and a single coil pickup the Jazz master is a double humbucking guitar and with all of those you've got the ability to split the coils so you could actually get single coil tones as well so really versatile guitars if you just want to
11:34
pull up that tone knob there do that and you split the coil and and you're gonna get single coil sounds edit your Telecaster so some really great versatile tonal options in the player series so it's both a single coil telly and humbucking telly exactly now Mike on our show we have a wonderful little segment known as corporate chili what we exchange is a simple trade if you will of two minutes of unfettered time on our show to talk about whatever you want absolutely anything now the trade off is
12:07
we're gonna need you to eat some chili some of our homemade chili in such a sense that we have brought along the Mad Dog 357 Gold Edition sauce with plutonium number nine extract this is some of the hottest hot sauce in the world and it clocks in somewhere between two and nine million scovilles oh my goodness great wonderful it's fine because we're not terrible people we of course will be eating our beautiful chili concoction with you I'm down and I think what I'd like to do is I'd like to
12:36
use my two minutes of time to do some trivia so what I thought we could do is I could ask each of you a Fender trivia question and if you get it right you can put one extra dash of this sauce in my chili and if you get it wrong you have to take an extra dash of hot sauce in your chili sound good no that sounds horrible but I'm for it let's do it let's do it salutely okay okay so I got one already on the go here with a little spoon that I've got a special one here
13:09
yeah how come you got a special one this is stuff so we got to keep our milk close and your enemies closer on the bottom yes the bottom everyone's wet on the bottom we're mostly water you fool all right so yeah let's uh this is brutal hmm all right ready yeah good luck guys thanks so much you know I enjoyed Chile
13:40
once there was a time Oh Chile's great oh man there's nothing wrong with it that's hot yeah I mean oh my goodness first one to touch their milks get another - I wasn't that I felt my spine shiver this is not the same Chile you want to go down weird oh my gosh okay it's no it's milk time it's milk time oh so you were talking about some trivia Mike milk it hold on oh oh why am i
14:16
hiccuping it's your fault the body is just rejected I don't understand the body works for your eyes water oh it's bad even with those fender questions all right jack I get really cold I don't know why I can't even ask the question I feel like it's a it's a works but now how much did you put in here just a - not too much I'm crying
14:50
I'm literally crying but what came first in fenders product line lineage the Jazz Master or the Jazz Bass Oh correct you damn right jazz master came out in 1958 this is actually the 60th anniversary of the Jazz Master this year jazz based the jazz bass didn't follow for a few years and I I honestly don't know if I can do another shut up why is it so far away so far
15:22
away milk's I literally had two bites I've had two bites as well dude what are your
15:51
eyes is red get away from me can you please ask me if the telly or this rat came for his I know the answer to that one that was insane I can't cannot do another one I don't know if I can take another bite a bat we're struggling hard time for trivia question number two okay Aaron what is
